The submarine is coming (part 9) <
Prepare everything for an emergency

As the rollers of the turning device pressed against the submarine when turning, this pressure had to be optimally distributed over as large an area as possible. The loads on the individual frames had to be kept as low as possible, especially in the rear, heavier area of U17.

Our technicians, together with the freight forwarder Kübler and the manufacturer of the turning device, found a solution for this on site: a 3 cm thick load distribution band was placed around the colossus, acting as a kind of protector between the rollers and the boat.

This prevented deformation. In simple terms, this band can be imagined as a protective band around a cigar. The rollers then run on it during the turning process.
