U17 transport start
From the Technik Museum Speyer to the banks of the Rhine
On 30 June, at 8:20 a.m., we finally set off: our U17 submarine made its way to the banks of the Rhine. The starting signal for our four-week U17 trip to the Technik Museum Sinsheim had been given. We were delighted with the successful start and the smooth progress.
We had been looking forward to finally bringing our U17 submarine to Sinsheim for a long time. The maritime old-timer had been in Speyer for 13 months, during which time every day was spent preparing for its transport to the south-east. The batteries, which weighed several tonnes, had to be removed, the rotating device was installed and practising the exact rotation was one of the biggest challenges for our crew. On 30 June, the time had finally come. Full of excitement, we set off on the journey - from Speyer to Sinsheim - the dream was finally taking shape. Many preparations had to be made in advance, including in Speyer harbour. On the following pages you can once again reminisce about (transport) memories.
